Jack Frost 2: Revenge of the Mutant Killer Snowman (2000)

Image
Jack Frost 2 is still as stupid as the first movie and now with the addition of killer snowballs, yeah it's more stupid then the first film. The plot itself is ludicrous. But it's got some funny moments. In high school, I did a double feature on the original film & part 2 and out of the ranking system I had at the time. The original while a bad movie, had some funny moments which I could tolerate. This, was probably the dumbest film ever made with a plot that made no sense but had some funny moments that made it decent. 2/5

Jack Frost (1997)

Image
Jack Frost was a film I would occasionally see at my local Blockbuster's horror vhs section as a kid. The VHS artwork same as this poster above got to me. I was always curious as to what this was. It wasn't until I was a teenager in high school when I finally got a chance to check it out and I considered then and now, one of those so bad it's funny type of films. The idea of a killer snowman is hilarious, yet we've had a horror movie about a killer gingerbread cookie, so, a snowman isn't all that far fetched. The movie itself is dumb and it plays more on the comedy angle then the horror angle. If you check out Jack Frost, don't expect too much. I didn't. 2/5

From Dusk Till Dawn 3: The Hangman's Daughter (2000)

Image
From Dusk Till Dawn 3: The Hangman's Daughter is more prequel than sequel. This one I would say is slightly better then 2 but still decent for what it is. My concern of the last film was we didn't see the bar as much. In this one, it plays more of a role which is great. I should have mentioned in the first movie review post, was that I binged all 3 movies in one night and my ranking still hasn't changed. From Dusk Till Dawn 3 gets a solid 3/5 from me. Slightly better then 2 but not great.

From Dusk Till Dawn 2: Texas Blood Money (1999)

Image
Whenever a horror movie does well, expect a sequel to happen. My stance on sequels is that if it's a film I like and it warrants one, sure that's fine. But if it's just for a cash grab then no, not interested. From Dusk Till Dawn 2: Texas Blood Money is not as great as the original film but it's decent for what it is. My only negative thing on the movie itself is the bar in the poster. When you look at the poster, you're probably thinking, another group of people trapped at the bar trying to survive the night? You'd be wrong. The bar is only in the film for maybe 5-6 minutes which is a shame as I would have like to see more of it. Decent sequel but not needed. 2/5

From Dusk Till Dawn (1996)

Image
From Dusk Till Dawn is a film I was introduced to when I was a teenager. Not knowing what to expect at the time, I thought it would have been another generic action flick of the 1990's but once the vampire aspect kicked in, I was hooked. The film starts out as a action movie but once the characters get to the bar, that's when the horror movie aspect kicks in and it doesn't stop. It's a movie that's insanely rewatchable and a lot of fun.  4/5

Intruder (1989)

Image
1989 was considered by many horror fans to be the last year of the golden 80's slasher decade. Anything you can think of was made into a slasher film. But a slasher flick set in a supermarket.... That's original don't you think? Now throughout the 80's, every slasher flick was trying to become the next Friday the 13th which resulted in mixed reactions. Some became cult classics while others faded into obscurity. 1989's Intruder is one of those slashers that may be a classic in the "B" movie genre but to me, it seems to be more forgotten nowadays. It's a pretty good slasher flick that in my horror movie collecting days, I remember grabbing this one and enjoying it. Even after a recent rewatch, it still holds up after the first viewing in my 20's. After reading that tagline in the poster above, who wouldn't want to check this out?  3/5

Wired (1989)

Image
For those familiar with John Belushi, he was a funny comedian who had the #1 show, #1 movie, and #1 album. He had it all... but drugs overtook him. Then in 1984, two years after Belushi's death Bob Woodward released a book called "The Short Life & Fast Times of John Belushi". It was nothing more then trash said by people who knew Belushi. In 1989, the book became a movie and it's a terrible terrible film which lead to Michael Chiklis being blackballed for a number of years because of his portrayal of John Belushi. I'm not going to knock down Chiklis because I think he's a good actor. I think he was given a terrible script. There's a lot of behind the scenes stories on this movie from Dan Ackroyd protesting to stop this film from being released to threatening of lawsuits should anyone associated with Belushi become mentioned in the film. Wired is a film that I highly doubt will ever see a physical release on DVD or Blu-ray and that's a good thing b...

Malone (1987)

Image
Clint Eastwood, Charles Bronson, & Burt Reynolds were some of the tough guys of the 70's & 80's that exploded in the action movie genre. Malone while a late entry into Reynold's career shows that he still has that tough guy exterior about him. It may be a forgotten action flick today, but it's still a lot of fun and a good one at that. I thank my father for the recommendation and I look forward to seeing more movies like this. 3/5

Terminal Invasion (2002)

Image
When I was a teenager growing up, there were two things that I was a fan of, 1. Bruce Campbell. 2. the Sci-fi (Syfy) channel's Saturday night monster movie. The budgets were low, the effects were cheap, but they were still great fun. Bruce Campbell takes a break from fighting deadites and instead fight aliens doing what he does best, using cheesy one-liners and being a smart ass. The film itself, I would call it a cheesy b movie rip-off of The Thing but still a lot of fun. It's a gem that needs to be discovered. 3/5

Demon City (2025)

Image
When one thinks of a title like Demon City. You're thinking to yourself, a Japanese horror flick?? No, it's an action flick. I was a little misled by the title, thinking it was a horror film because the dialogue in the film keeps referencing the word "demons" but as I continued to watch Demon City, I realized that it was a straight up action flick. I would say it's more of a Japanese knock-off of the John Wick franchise but more violent. The story has been done many times before. I guess people are used to cookie cutter plots. Don't get me wrong, I love action movies and I love Chinese, Japanese action flicks but sometimes they can be a little repetitive. Demon City is decent, but it's all been done before. 3/5

Switchback (1997)

Image
Switchback was a movie that's been on my watch list for quite some time. It's an entertaining thriller with great performances by everyone in the cast. I enjoyed watching Danny Glover & Jared Leto on the road together exchanging dialogue and you know the dialogue is good where you can see that the writing was making the film go back and fourth on who among them is the killer while Dennis Quaid is a tough no nails FBI agent nothing to stop him as he sets out to find the killer. I have no issues with pacing as it moved quite quickly to get to the point and the action set pieces were well done. It's shocking to me that I actually enjoyed this film so much mainly because of the performances. I guess it's my old age catching up to me. It may be forgotten today, but it's well worth checking out. 4/5

Crocodile 2: Death Swamp (2002)

Image
Crocodile 2: Death Swamp is a sequel that wasn't needed. It has nothing to do with the first film whatsoever other than crocodiles on a rampage. Sure, the plot has been done many times before and it's got more bad acting and typical dumb character decisions. It's nothing more than typical sequel fodder. As I've said countless times, there are sequels that are never needed but there are some that I give exceptions to. But Crocodile 2 is again, not needed. 2/5

Crocodile (2000)

Image
Crocodile is a typical horror flick with dumb teenagers sprouting out dumb dialogue trying to survive against a killer crocodile. I get a kick out of these movies just because they're fun. If it wasn't for the bad acting or ridiculous plot, I wouldn't have watched this or the sequel. Crocodile is nowhere near the classics like Jaws, Piranha, Orca etc. It's B movie fun. 3/5

Redline (1997)

Image
Redline aka Death Line is nothing more than your typical direct to video action flick. It's got some good fight scenes, okay acting and Rutger Hauer just hamming it up. Movies like these are best watched on a afternoon. Overall, Redline is decent and it did his job. Nothing more, nothing less. 2/5

Pumpkinhead 2: Blood Wings (1994)

Image
Pumpkinhead 2: Blood Wings is a fun sequel to the 80's classic. While not great. It was entertaining for what it was. I've said countless times that sequels to horror flicks aren't needed. But I do have exceptions for some movies. I knew what to expect going into the sequel and it did it's job. 3/5

Pumpkinhead (1988)

Image
Pumpkinhead along with it's sequel were movies I remember finding in my dad's vhs collection. I did a double feature at the time and I can say that while Pumpkinhead isn't a mainstream movie, it's a fun 80's B movie classic. Everything from the story, acting and special effects is top notch. Going through my dad's vhs collection, there was always that rare gem I would come across and Pumpkinhead is certainly that gem. 3/5

Evil Dead Rise (2023)

Image
It's been 10 years since the remake of Evil Dead hit theaters and people have wanted another movie hopefully with Bruce Campbell again. It seems that another movie with Bruce will never happen as he's retiring from the role. But it's not going to stop Sam Raimi giving other filmmakers a spin at the series. Evil Dead Rise is a fun graphic gory film. I don't consider it Evil Dead 4, it's more of a stand alone movie. When one watches an Evil Dead movie, you have to know what to expect going in and it check marked all my boxes. At the time of this writing, there's another Evil Dead film in the works and you can sure bet that I will be checking out upon release. 3/5

Evil Dead (2013)

Image
Over the years, I've heard rumblings of a remake being in the works. There was a time where I heard that Ashton Kutcher was going to be in it and play Ash. At the time, I thought it was a terrible idea and I'm glad that never happened. I still am against remakes of classic movies as they add nothing new. The 2013 Evil Dead remake while graphic & gory as it is, it's not a great movie. I'm not saying that because I dislike remakes but I feel that it should have been left alone. Horror fans have wanted a sequel and I say no, just leave it alone. Despite me crapping all over the film itself, it does have some interesting parts but as a film itself, it's not needed. 2 1/2 /5

Army of Darkness (1993)

Image
Army of Darkness...The third installment in the Evil Dead series is probably the most fun flick I've ever seen. I could see a difference in quality right away after the first two movies in the series due to it being a studio movie and more of a budget. The comedy is amped up to eleven while the horror is amped up to 8. If you put it into perspective, The Evil Dead is a serious horror flick with no comedy, Evil Dead 2 is not a serious horror flick, but a horror comedy, where Army of Darkness is more of a comedy then a horror. In this case it works due to Ash's stupidity. Over the years, I've wanted at least one more movie with Bruce but alas at this point, I don't think it'll ever happen. 4/5

Evil Dead 2 (1987)

Image
Sequels to successful horror films in my opinion aren't necessarily needed as they tend to ruin the continuity of the series. Yes, I'm looking at you, The Return of the Living Dead 2 & Fright Night 2. But Evil Dead 2 is an exception because like the first film, it's fun, dumb, and hilarious. People have often said that Evil Dead 2 is a remake of the first movie and I kinda agree but don't. Yes, it's a sequel but I don't think it's a remake because why would Ash return to the cabin after the events of the first movie? Overall, Evil Dead 2 is a classic like the first movie and anyone getting into horror should check the series out. 5/5

The Evil Dead (1981)

Image
I've often said many times that The Return of the Living Dead, Creepshow & Hell Night were my introductions to the horror genre at a young age. The Evil Dead series came along as well at the same time. I've been a huge fan of the series & Bruce Campbell for years that no matter how many versions of the film I own, it gets better each time. Sure, the budget was low and the acting can be corny at times, but that's what makes the original Evil Dead fun.  5/5

Heretic (2024)

Image
I frequent the horror site Bloody-Disgusting quite a bit for my horror movie news or trailers for upcoming movies. One day, a trailer dropped for a movie called Heretic. There was a lot of praise for this movie from festivals citing Hugh Grant's portrayal of the main villain. I was quite curious about this and waited for the trailer to show up to see for myself. Finally the trailer dropped online and my instant reaction on watching it was two people trapped in a house by Hugh Grant and trying to get out... I got to see this. When you think of Hugh Grant, you think of him as that guy who was in a ton of 90's sappy romance films. I've never seen any of his romance flicks and I don't think I ever will  He tried to change his image in 1996 with Extreme Measures. A thriller which I've seen and thought it was decent. Audiences back then weren't receptive with his trying something different and he went back into being typecast as the romantic lead. I went into Heretic ...

The Bayou (2025)

Image
When one thinks of movies involving killer reptiles or fish, you may think of Jaws (1975), Piranha (1978) or Alligator (1980) which were considered scary for the time or you could be thinking of something a little more old school like Anaconda (1997) or Lake Placid (1999). Those films I've mentioned rank high in the killer animal movie list. When watching The Bayou, I went into it expecting nothing more than your  typical killer reptile film and I got just that. It'll tide me over until the next movie involving another killer reptile shows up. 3/5

Bone Face (2025)

Image
As I was watching Bone Face, I had to chuckle at the first 11 minutes of the movie because one of the camp counselors is talking about story of Bone Face and one of the counselors makes reference to Jason Voorhees. You know, I really want another Friday the 13th movie. Before I trail off, I have to say that Bone Face was surprisingly good and I was very taken aback by it because lately a lot of horror movies that have been released have been disappointing but for some reason, this one held my interest. I guess it's because I like whodunit films and people trapped in an area trying to survive the night from whatever's out there. The acting leaves a little to be desired especially from Jeremy London who overacted his part of the sheriff Having been disappointed by  what the horror community has been releasing to streaming the last couple of months, Bone Face is a breath of fresh air and possibly a sign that good horror is coming. 3/5

Den of Thieves (2018)

Image
It's been a long time since I've seen a action flick with Gerard Butler and he's usually very good in them with the exception of a few. I'm surprised it took me awhile to check this one out as Den of Thieves is a lot of fun. It's predictable and full of your typical action flick cliches but the run time went by so fast that I couldn't believe how tight the pacing was. The story itself has been done before numerous times but I brushed it aside and had some fun with it. 4/5

The Monster Beneath Us (2025)

Image
When you look at a film called The Monster Beneath Us, a couple of things may come to you... Is it a straight up horror movie? A monster movie or is it all of the above? The Monster Beneath Us is a horror movie with a monster but here's the twist... the film is pretty much a drama with horror elements plus a monster. The results of the film itself is not very good. Despite a promising beginning, the pacing starts going down as soon as the main characters show up. I can appreciate a slow burn film every once in awhile but the film was extremely slow-paced that I couldn't finish it. 1/5

Don't Mess With Grandma (2025)

Image
Don't Mess With Grandma is a humorous if not dumb movie. Going into this movie, I expected a home invasion type flick with Michael Jai White taking out the bad guys one by one. I just didn't expect the film to be heavy into the comedy. I could say it's sort of a spoof on home invasion but it's more of a comedy. While I did enjoy whatever fight scenes were in this film. I couldn't help but feel a little disappointed with the fact that they relied too much on comedy and not enough on the action. 2/5

Humane (2024)

Image
Rabid (1977), Shivers (1975), The Brood (1979), Videodrome (1983) & Crash (1996). What do these movies have in common? For one, they deal with the subject of body horror and second, they were all directed by David Cronenberg the master of weird. Now, his kids have followed into that trend and started making weird movies of their own. Here we have Humane which not as weird as the films I've mentioned above. But still it's a little weird. It plays heavy into the politics and I'm one of those film buffs that refuses to be lectured and would rather be entertained. Humane isn't a bad flick, it was a little difficult to understand the underlying message of the film but I have an idea on what's it about. 2/5

Movie Theater Massacre (2025)

Image
I like to start this mini-review off by saying I like indie films. I've seen my fair share of them over the years and while they can be good at times, there's also bad ones as well. In my opinion, an indie horror film can be a lot of fun if done properly. Unfortunately, Movie Theater Massacre was not fun or even a great film. It was one of those movies where I turned it off after 20 minutes due to it's pacing and acting. The movie runs at 71 minutes so there shouldn't be any excuse with why the pacing was off. Again, I've watched a lot of indie movies and I know what to expect with them, but the acting in Movie Theater Massacre was just so bad that it tuned me out right away.  I may come off as negative in this review and I'm not trying to be mean or anything, but, the film could have been better if it's pacing and acting were more up to par. 1/5
