Heretic (2024)
I frequent the horror site Bloody-Disgusting quite a bit for my horror movie news or trailers for upcoming movies. One day, a trailer dropped for a movie called Heretic. There was a lot of praise for this movie from festivals citing Hugh Grant's portrayal of the main villain. I was quite curious about this and waited for the trailer to show up to see for myself. Finally the trailer dropped online and my instant reaction on watching it was two people trapped in a house by Hugh Grant and trying to get out... I got to see this. When you think of Hugh Grant, you think of him as that guy who was in a ton of 90's sappy romance films. I've never seen any of his romance flicks and I don't think I ever will He tried to change his image in 1996 with Extreme Measures. A thriller which I've seen and thought it was decent. Audiences back then weren't receptive with his trying something different and he went back into being typecast as the romantic lead. I went into Heretic thinking it was going to be a straight up horror flick but instead all I got was a lot of talking which resulted in it's pacing going off. There were a lot of interesting moments in the movie but I feel what brought it down was the insane amount of dialogue. The dialogue in a movie has to progress the story to get to the point and there was no progression, it was just boring.
An interesting film...yes. A good movie...no.
