Leprechaun 2 (1994)

Image
Leprechaun 2 is a fun sequel to the original film. He's back with more wisecracks and new ways to torment people. The effects may appear dated, but along with that, what makes the film work is the cast. The script may have appear dumb to them when they got it, but they put their effort into it and made it a fun watch for this horror nerd. 3/5

Cobra (1986)

Image
Cobra is a slice of 80's cheese. It's a classic bad movie but it's my favorite bad movie from Stallone. It's got everything from cheesy dialogue, a scary bad guy with a look that will give you nightmares and more cheesy dialogue.  4/5

Hell High (1989)

Image
Hell High is one of those films that came out near the tail end of the 80's slasher cycle. There are many slashers that have achieved cult status, Hell High is entirely forgettable. The main issue I had with the film was the pacing. It's a slasher, we don't need long pointless scenes or exposition. Slashers set up the story, character and killer or killers.  I love my slasher flicks but this was not one of them. 2/5

9 Windows (2024)

Image
Watching 9 Windows, it reminded me of the Alfred Hitchcock movie, Rear Window. This time instead of windows, it's computers. It wasn't just the plot that attracted me to the film, it was William Forsythe & Michael Pare who both seemed like they were hamming it up. It was a good idea but I think it need to have better writing especially for the reveal of the killer. 2/5

In a Violent Nature (2024)

Image
With the Friday the 13th franchise in a current legal battle over who owns the rights, I don't think we'll be getting a new movie anytime soon. In a Violent Nature plays out as a tribute to the Friday franchise but I think the execution of the movie could have been better. The POV of the killer throughout I thought was a good idea but I feel it shouldn't have been the main focus.  2/5

Rippy (2024)

Image
When I think of Australian horror films that deal with a killer animal, the first film that comes to mind is Razorback which I liked that film and thought that no other film could top that. Rippy is a film that I had a lot of fun with. It doesn't take itself seriously and you can't help but chuckle at the CGI zombie kangaroo. The only issue I had was the ending which I felt was too tacky. Other than that, I had fun with this film and hope to see more from these guys. 3/5

Leprechaun (1993)

Image
Leprechaun is one of those films that is more of a comedy than a horror in my opinion. Who would have thought that a film like Leprechaun would spawn 7 sequels & a remake? I sure didn't. Horror effects are decent and the kills are downright hilarious. This was Jennifer Anniston's first film before she got her huge break in the tv series, Friends and it was said that she was embarrassed of the film. She should be proud of the fact that she got her start in what was to be a cult phenomenon. I should mention that I plan on reviewing the rest of the film series so I can't wait to see what's in store for Leprechaun. 5/5

Seven Cemeteries (2024)

Image
Seven Cemeteries is nothing more than your typical "B" movie. It's labeled as a horror comedy. But I didn't see any comedy in it and the horror in the film was nothing more then cheesy. Don't get me wrong, I can appreciate cheesy horror but it has to be done right. Slow in some spots but it's average at best. A movie best suited on a afternoon or if you have nothing else to watch. 1/5

Smile 2 (2024)

Image
I still laugh at the fact that with the massive success of the Friday the 13th movies in the 1980's, Paramount was so embarrassed by it because they didn't want to be labeled as the movie studio that only releases horror movies. Yet, they had no problem with making money and ordering sequel after sequel. In the case of Smile, it was such a success that Paramount immediately ordered a sequel. I'm of the opinion that not every horror movie needs a sequel and such is the case with Smile 2. I found it slow, tedious, and boring. I will command that they did a great job with the gore sequences but the film itself would have been better if they had trimmed it down from it's 2 hour run time. I've said this many times that horror films should not be 2 hours. 90-100 minutes, tops. 2 hours is nothing more than adding scenes that have nothing to do with making the plot move forward. The only thing that worked for me was the gore in this movie but the story itself could have bee...

Smile (2022)

Image
Ever since the release of The first Conjuring movie in 2013, horror movies especially ones detailing the paranormal all rely on jump scares to scare the audience. It was good for awhile and then it got really tiring after. Smile is one of those films that rely on the jump scares but also rely on sound to scare you. The biggest thing I think that made this film work for me was the sound and the CGI smiles which I'll admit gave me a chuckle or two. 20 years down the road, the only thing people will remember about this movie is not the plot but the viral marketing campaign where various people were seen smiling that creepy grin. 2 1/2/5 Reason why I'm giving it a 2 and a half is because I thought the film was okay but not great.

Menace II Society (1993)

Image
Menace II Society isn't your typical 90's hood movie. This is a film that shows life in the 90's with crime, police brutality and murder. It's kind of similar to the problems going in the world today, most recently with George Floyd. The film isn't for everyone, but if you're in the mood for a powerful drama with good acting then this film is for you. 3/5

The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms (1953)

Image
The 1950's were all about monster movies, the atomic bomb and outer space. When Bloody-Disgusting talks about a certain film, I know I have to check it out. In my younger days I would never be interested in stuff from the 50's, but now as I get older, I've begun to appreciate older cinema.  The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms is a fun monster movie that even though there was no CGI, it's a damn good movie. This was made a year before Godzilla which really jumpstarted the 50's monster movie craze. Great movie, cool monster and I'll keep on watching these when I can. 4/5

Death Streamer (2024)

Image
Death Streamer is your typical Full Moon film. Short runtime, bad acting and abrupt endings.  I miss the days of when their films were fun to watch. Sure, the acting was terrible but it was still fun. Movies made by Full Moon moon now, don't have the spirit of when they were produced in the 80's or 90's. I still watch them with a glimmer of hope that something good would come out of it. Death Streamer started out alright but then it petered out by the end. In the immortal words of Egan from Ghostbusters: "Don't cross the stream". 1/5

Terrifier 3 (2024)

Image
It was a shock to me when Terrifier 2 ended it's box office run of $15 million on a budget of $250,000. There was a lot of hype surrounding the film from people throwing up to passing out at screenings. Despite all that, it managed to score $15 million from the box office. Now, when it comes to part 3, that same hype happened all over again and it beat the Joker sequel at the box office with $18 million. It's safe to say that Art the clown has reached cult status and joins the ranks of Jason, Michael & Freddy in the slasher club. Terrifier 3 is an insane gore fest from start to finish. I thought part 2 was gory and nuts, 3 went all the way to eleven and went even more insane. All 3 films were made outside of the studio system without any interference and Hollywood must be scratching their heads as to how an indie film like this could beat one of their own films. If you like gore, then Terrifier 3 is the film for you. 3/5

Mr. Crocket (2024)

Image
Mr. Crocket is one of those films where I went in blind and was pleasantly surprised by the outcome.  It's a campy, gory fun film which that being said, it isn't without it's flaws. There's a few pacing issues and some of acting wasn't the greatest but despite all that, it was a fun flick. Mr. Crocket reminded me of an unfinished film that Joe Spinell made in the 80's before he passed away called Maniac 2: Mr. Robbie which had the same kind of plot. One thing that they did mess up on was the free library stands in front of people's houses. Those weren't a thing until the early 2000's. I don't ever recall seeing one of those things as a kid growing up in the 90's.  All in all, Mr. Crocket is one of those films that's best watched on a Friday night. 2/5

Salem's Lot (1979)

Image
What is there to say about Salem's Lot? It's a classic scary TV movie with a good pace, great acting and a scary vampire and at 183 minutes, you get to know the citizens of Salem. This is something I feel that the remake failed to do. The Barlow character in the book was written as an average businessman/vampire. In the movie, he's a Nosferatu type vampire which works in generating fear. To the average filmgoer, it may be slow, but for a seasoned horror movie fan like myself, it moves at great speed. 5/5

Salem's Lot (2024)

Image
The 1979 adaptation of Salem's Lot is in my opinion, one of the scariest TV movies of all time. It runs a crisp 183 minutes and despite it being a horror movie, we get to know what the townsfolk are like during the vampire outbreak. In this remake of Salem's Lot which runs 113 minutes, there's no time to get to know the townsfolk. It moves at a fast pace that I found myself not liking it as much, wanting it to slow down. In horror films, I like to get to know a character whether I like them or not. Here, I couldn't even describe the personality of Ben Mears or Susan Norton. The make-up effects were not bad on the vampires. Barlow here looks like a drunk uncle Fester that it made me chuckle whenever he appeared on screen. Stick with the original TV movie, it's 10x better then this.  I'll end this review by saying that the original cut of the film was 3 hours long. I don't doubt that in those 3 hours, a better movie would be found, but I sure would like to see...

V/H/S Beyond (2024)

Image
After the disappointment of the last two movies in the series, V/H/S Beyond is a step up from the previous two. The stories in this film are fun, weird & gory but one of them wasn't that great.  Story 1 - Stork: A swat team invades a building looking for the abduction of missing babies come across zombies & a stork monster. This one was weird and gory that I couldn't help but chuckle at the stork. Story 2 - Dream Girl: Paparazzi in India go after the latest Bollywood sensation only for it to result in a gory finale. A little slow, but not bad. Story 3 - Live & Let Dive: A group of people celebrating a birthday go skydiving only after they fall from the plane come across a UFO. I think this story was one of my favorites and like the first one, was gory. Story 4 - Fur Babies - Animal rights activists investigate the home of a doggy daycare and what they find isn't what it seems. Right off the bat, the story was weird as hell which petered out towards the end. It...

V/H/S 94 (2021)

Image
7 years after the last V/H/S movie. V/H/S 94 is released and you would think they would have improved their writing skills after the last movie. Nothing stood out for me but the writing in this was still lackluster. With 4 more stories of terror, you would think it take them all this time to come up with great stories. While some were decent, others were not. After the third film, I believe they should have called it a day. But, I guarantee you, we'll be seeing more sequels. 2/5

V/H/S Viral (2014)

Image
Third times a charm they say. Despite a little bit of a drop in quality, V/H/S Viral is not a bad sequel but it has lackluster writing. This time around we have 4 more stories of terror but some of the terror could have used a little more sharper writing. Segments in a anthology film have to hit you in the first 5 minutes to make sense of what the story is about. If after 5 minutes it trails off, then the story bombs. The segments in this while they were alright. It could have used better writing.  2/5

V/H/S 2 (2013)

Image
After the success of the first film. A sequel to V/H/S was not that far off. Released a year later after the first film, V/H/S 2 churns up 4 stories of terror with more scares, gore and chilling moments. The movie is fast paced at 95 minutes and by the time it's over, you'll want more. 3/5

V/H/S (2012)

Image
Found footage movies are hit or miss. They can be fun or they can be bad. In 2012, the first of seven installments in the V/H/S series was released. I remember enjoying this one quite a bit when it was first released. I grew up with VHS. From the quality to the blue screen drop outs, it's safe to say this film will hit you in the nostalgia feels. V/H/S has 5 stories of terror and with the exception of the second story, all of them were pretty good.  If you like anthologies & found footage, then check out V/H/S. 3/5
