The Glimmer Man (1996)

When I finished high school in 2008. I celebrated by having a Steven Seagal marathon. At the time I didn't watch his theatrical stuff, I grabbed all of his DTV stuff and marathoned the hell out of it. The films were terrible, always the same plot just in a different setting, Seagal playing the same type of character whether it's a cop, special forces soldier, CIA, FBI, etc. with literally no emotion. I mean Jean Claude Van Damme who's also lackluster in his films, at least shows some type of emotion when he plays different roles even though it's the same character. While I consider the early Seagal films classics of their time, they are in my opinion so bad it's good for the reasons I mentioned above. The Glimmer Man is a film that was near the tail end of Seagal's theatrical run and into the DTV market. What I found most humorous about this movie is his character becoming a Buddhist and refraining from fighting. That didn't seem to last long as he started fighting again in his next film shedding that Buddhist image of his. The Glimmer Man is a full on cheesy movie with a script that's typical of what to expect from Seagal and the fight scenes he does have are pretty laughable at best. Like horror movies, I don't expect good acting in action flicks, just a lot of ass kicking and sprouting out cheesy one liners and that's what you get in this film. For an action flick, pacing isn't bad. I could go on and on about how bad of an actor Seagal is. But it's always fun to watch him be bad in a film and leave with a smile on your face.

I'm Jeff Roman.
