Sliver (1993)

Before I watch a film, I would research and read up on the behind the scenes. To me, it's fun & fascinating to learn things about the films I like or thinking of checking out. Sliver is a film that sounded rather interesting to me after reading about the turmoil behind the scenes from both Sharon Stone & William Baldwin that you would think it would be a good movie....Right? No. it's not good. As I've mentioned, Sliver had a lot of issues behind the scenes from Sharon Stone's egomania, script problems, test screening disasters, alot of crazy stuff that the final film suffers from it. I personally think that the massive success of Basic Instinct, went to Sharon Stone's head which caused Sliver to fail. The script is terrible. I don't know how many rewrites were done on this movie, but my god, it's terrible. I mean for an erotic thriller, they really tried to up the eroticism thinking they'd capture lightning in a bottle twice. I guess in the 90's, erotic thrillers were the flavor of the month in theaters. Acting is okay. I was never really a fan of Sharon Stone to begin with as I found her to be too snobby. William Baldwin, he's okay, not great, but okay. The Baldwin Brothers are good when they get good material. Sliver's script is terrible which results in terrible acting. Pacing is also okay. On a side note, months after seeing Sliver, I've ended up seeing a bootleg workprint which was different then the final film and also contained a different ending. I would say the workprint is slightly better, but still not great. Sliver is by no means a sexy film, it's a dirty film.

I'm Jeff Roman.
