Tales From The Darkside: The Movie (1990)

I must confess, I've only ever seen a few episodes of Tales From The Darkside. I remember enjoying them and perhaps one of these days I'll end up watching the series. Now, in terms of Tales From The Darkside: The Movie, I've always liked this movie after watching it a few times off of my father's old VHS. Tales From The Darkside: The Movie is a fun anthology horror movie and I've never really thought about it as much until most recently, it's considered by many, especially Tom Savini himself that Tales From The Darkside: The Movie is the real Creepshow 3. The wraparound segment deals with a witch preparing dinner for the other witches. The main course (a boy) tries to stall by telling the witch 3 stories of terror.

Lot 249 - A university student receives Lot 249 aka a mummy to get his revenge from the bullies who tormented him. This story is pretty good, short, sweet and has a funny ending.

Cat From Hell - This story was originally supposed to be in Creepshow 2. But I think it fares better here. An eccentric old man hires a hitman to kill a cat who he believes was sent to kill him. This story is hilarious, just for how far fetched it sounds. It's got good acting and like Lot 249, good pacing.

Lover's Vow - The final story in this movie concerns a struggling artist who gets spared after seeing his friend get killed by a gargoyle. If he swears to never reveal what he saw. Predictable, but comes with a very interesting twist ending.

All 4 stories in Tales From The Darkside: The Movie are very good in terms of acting, pacing, and script. It's such a shame that it never got a sequel, but I'm glad it only stuck with the one movie as I've always said, less is more.

I'm Jeff Roman.
