Around the time the first remake of Silent Night, Deadly Night came out in 2012, I had seen the original movie and I had read a little into the outrage of Santa Clause killing people with an axe. To me, watching the 80's slasher then, I enjoyed it regardless as I wasn't one to care for quality and or script. Watching it now, I felt it was more tame and nothing more then a typical slasher that was set out to shock. As I said in my commentary for the original movie, Where was the outrage in 1980 when a slasher called Christmas Evil was released when there was a killer Santa, no one even batted an eye. What about My Bloody Valentine or Home Sweet Home? Two 80's slasher films set on a holiday and yet, there was no outrage or controversy. Had there been no controversy regarding Silent Night, Deadly Night, I believe the film would have been forgotten and sailing the high seas. I was that guy. Now that I'm older, I've begun to appreciate films a lot more now then ever before. I've seen the first remake way back when it first came out and I remember enjoying it but can't remember much else. Silent Night, Deadly Night 2025 is not a bad movie, but it suffers from a few issues such as lazy writing, and terrible script. I thought the movie was okay for what it is, but I feel that this version of Silent Night, Deadly Night went a little too tame with it's kill scenes. A movie like this, I expected it to be gory & over the top like Terrifer. What I got was something that was almost felt like it was shy of showing off the gore. The acting is typical for this kind of film. Not bad, but humorous. The pacing is subpar in a couple of other scenes, but it suffers from lazy writing and they had to shoehorn a supernatural subplot which made no sense and I questioned why that was added.
In conclusion, Silent Night, Deadly Night 2025, isn't a bad movie, despite it's issues, but I feel it could have done better.
I'm Jeff Roman.
