Red Sonja (1985)

In the early 80's. Conan the Barbarian was considered to be the definite sword & sorcery flick and many imitators soon followed like Krull, the Death master series, & many others. Also around the same time many movies in the 80's had that cheese factor where you can just turn your brain off & have fun with it which is something that I think modern movies nowadays lack. Stop preaching and learn to entertain your audience. Red Sonja is one of the many Conan imitators that after watching the first 5 minutes, it's  full of cheese but it's just so downright fun. It doesn't even slow down, right away the film gets going  and I'm thinking, slow down, I want to get to know the main character. The script is so cheesy that you can smell it across the screen. Acting is so-so, but then again, what can you expect from a film of this caliber. Pacing as I mentioned is pretty good, but too fast. I was kind of surprised to see Arnold in a film where he isn't the lead and I guess maybe it's one of the reasons why he isn't fond of the film today, or maybe it's because his role was originally intended to just be a cameo. I t's been a very very long time since I've seen a sword & sorcery film and I hope to check out more in the near future.

I'm Jeff Roman.
