The Blair Witch Project (1999)
When The Blair Witch Project was released in 1999, I was 9 years old, playing a lot of horror video games and slowly discovered the world of horror films and wouldn't see The Blair Witch Project until years later. Having seen the film numerous times, the film was my introduction to the found footage genre and I've seen a bunch of films in that genre and many of them seem to try to be the next Blair Witch, they don't hold a candle to it. There are found footage films I like, but it least it had the audacity to be it's own movie. The acting in Blair Witch is mediocre. In found footage films, the acting is always bad, but here it's okay but some of it felt over the top to me. Whatever script they had was good and pacing is alright for it's short run time of 81 minutes. I have to laugh thinking that in 1994, there were no cellphones, no social media and the only thing that could have helped you get out of the woods was a thing called a map. Had they had the technology we had today, they would have been out of the woods in seconds flat. To be an audience member in 1999, watching this for the first time, I'm sure people were horrified thinking this was real footage and these were real people that have gone missing. Overall, The Blair Witch Project is in my opinion one of the best found footage films of the 90's and people getting into horror flicks should expand their horizons and check out every inch of what is the offer and I do mean watch some found footage.
I'm Jeff Roman.
