Monster in the Closet (1986)
Having seen Sgt. Kabukiman N.Y.P.D. & Frostbiter: Wrath of the Wendigo, they were my introduction to Troma despite having never seen any of their catalog growing up. While I thought both films were decent but not great, I decided to give Troma another shot with Monster in the Closet and how did it fare you ask? Well, Monster in the Closet is slightly better than the first two films I've seen and that's saying alot. Do you think it's the script that made it better than the other films? You'd be wrong as the script was the stupidest thing I ever heard of in my life. Do you think it's the pacing? You'd be wrong again as it was fine. Could it be the acting that got my attention? No, the acting is terrible. The answer to why the film is slightly better is because of the monster. I swear every time it appeared on screen, I couldn't help but laugh at the effect itself. So cheesy and so dumb that it would make Fluffy the crate monster in Creepshow blush. I guess I'm getting a little too hard on the film. Monster in the Closet is a stupid b-movie that's good for a laugh that is all.
P.S. I wonder what Paul Walker thought of this film before he passed away?
