Sweet Revenge (2025)

This will be a little different for the blog as I'm reviewing a short film from one of my favorite horror franchises, Friday the 13th. Now, I rarely if not ever watch short films. But this had me intrigued. The last time we horror fans saw Jason Voorhees on the big screen was in 2009 and next to all the actors who portrayed Jason in each of the 12 films, all of them have made their mark in horror history. I don't have a personal favorite. But for 16 years, we've all waited patiently for another movie. But due to the legal issues surrounding the original screenwriter, it's been a long road in order for another film to happen. We have a new tv series in the works, Crystal Lake, which is said to be a prequel about Pamela Voorhees before the events of the original Friday the 13th film. I'm personally on the fence about this as I feel we don't need to know her backstory. Am I happy were getting more Jason content? Yes. But I feel a tv series is the wrong way to go given the behind the scenes turmoil. Either way, I'll check it out when it is released. I've been a huge fan of the Friday the 13th films since I was teenager. From the times, I've watched them on my dad's vhs 100's of times. I was hooked. There was news in regards to something happening with the Jason universe and it came out with some sort of extended commercial for Angry Orchard Hard Cider as you can literally see in shots of this 15 minute short film, the bottle of Angry Orchard or characters drinking Angry Orchard. I could care less about Angry Orchard as that brand of beer isn't available in Canada. Now, I was more happy to see Jason back on my computer screen again doing what he does best. One thing I will mention is the music in the franchise has always been one of the reasons why I love the franchise. Sinister and scary, knowing that Jason is coming to kill. Now here, the music is an upgrade of what Harry Manfredini did in his films. It's nowhere near perfect but for what's it worth, I enjoyed it. The acting is subpar but then again, the franchise isn't known for good acting, just the kills.

After watching Sweet Revenge, I would enjoy seeing another film in the franchise but who knows, maybe if Crystal Lake does well, then it may happen.
