The Stepfather (1987)

When it comes to slasher flicks, I consider myself to be an aficionado. Ever since I was a teenager, I've seen hundreds if not, thousands of slasher films and I know what to expect going into them. Often times they are all the same, just cookie cutter carbon copies of well known franchises like Friday The 13th, Halloween, & The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. But then you got slashers that end up being a surprise and try to do things a little bit different then their predecessors. The Stepfather is indeed one of them. I do consider it a typical slasher. But I do give it points for trying to do something different. Slashers are often filled with obnoxious teenagers who end up being killed by the villain, here I applaud that they tried something different with a family plot. The script is slasher fodder. The acting is decent for a change, and very good on pacing. Overall, I highly recommend The Stepfather for trying something new with the genre.
