The Crow (2024)

Remember the scene in Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery when Dr. Evil says to his son Scott that he's cool & hip? I'm willing to bet that's what the studio executives were saying when they heard the pitch of this remake. We finally got The Crow out of development hell they said. I feel like it should have stayed there for good. Actors like Jason Momoma & Bradley Cooper were considered for The Crow but dropped out. They made a wise decision as Bill Skarsgard's version isn't very good.

When the original film came out in 1994, Brandon Lee had passed away a year prior due to a prop mishap. It did very well in theatres and on home video. We all know that when something does well, expect sequels. Now, fast foward to when a remake was mentioned a lot of people including myself said it was a bad idea and should be left alone. The first 50 or so minutes, you get to see Eric & Shelley being... your stereotypical Gen Z couple against the world and are slightly arrogant at times. In the original film, you saw glimpses of Eric & Shelley's relationship through flashbacks. Here you get to see it in real time. The action slowly begins within the hour mark. Now, I love action films, but I couldn't help but feel bored of the action and that rarely ever happens. I think it's because all the negative feedback it got, it took me out of the film. Film studios need to understand that not all movies need a remake. Last week, director Rupert Sanders attacked the audience for the film bombing at the box office. When you attack the audience for not liking your film, you turn them away not wanting to see your film.
This Crow doesn't have wings.
It's been said that's it's not a remake or sequel. I'm sorry I have to disagree. When you use the same character names from a film that you're making, it's a remake and you can't convince me otherwise.
